Forbes Highlights Former Exec at Natixis John Hailer
John Hailer is the president of Boston-based 1251 Asset Management, 1251 Capital Group Inc subsidiary. He has been an active investor in the real estate market since 2003 and has focused on distressed properties for over ten years.
He is also a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), where he serves as vice chair of the board of directors. In addition to his role at NAREIT, Mr. Hailer is a director of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership Corporation (MassHousing) and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Natixis John Hailer graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1985. He received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1989. In 1987, Mr. Hailer joined the investment banking firm of Dillon Read & Co., where he worked until 1993. During that time, he was responsible for advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, recapitalizations, and other corporate transactions.
In 1993, Mr. Hailer founded 1251 Asset Management, which provides asset management services to institutional investors. The company manages more than $1 billion in assets across several sectors, including commercial real estate, industrial property, office buildings, multifamily housing, retail, self-storage, and land development. In 2009, Mr. Hailer was named one of the top 100 most influential people in New England by the New England Business Journal.
In his free time, John Hailer enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, golfing, skiing, and traveling. He is married to his wife, Susan, who works in finance. They have two children, Emily and Jack. His parents are both deceased.
Mr. Hailer has plans to expand his business into the UK and Europe. This will be achieved through a combination of organic growth and acquisition. Thus far, 1251 Asset Management has acquired three companies: First Property Management, LLC; Lighthouse Properties, LLC; and RMS Realty Management Services, LLC. These acquisitions have allowed 1251 Asset Management to increase its presence in the Northeast US and access new markets.
